So it goes without saying how sad I was to see the passing of Dom DeLuise this past Monday night, even though it took me more than enough time to mention it...They have not disclosed a cause of death, but I understand he had been battling cancer for more than a year.

My friend C at work (who is several years younger than myself) and I were mentioning how, despite his famous and well-known roles in Mel Brooks' films, we both had a special soft spot for all the voice work he did--like An American Tail and most importantly, The Secret of NIMH. She was even saying that's where the magic of "sparkly" comes from--I thought I was the only one who thought so. Hee hee.

I realize I'm not familiar with some of his older work, but I can barely remember a time when I didn't know his name--he had a distinctive voice that I always instantly recognized, even when I was just a kid.

So it's another depressing loss, at a not terribly old age.

(Heh heh, don't forget All Dogs Go to Heaven. Not as timeless as NIMH, but surely no worse than Tail.)
